Excited to present a recently published paper co-authored with Ana Macanovic (EUI) on “text mining methods for short texts”. The conference brings together sociologists to discuss the methodological challenges of computational social science for research and teaching in sociology.

My colleague Annelie Brüning and I look forward to presenting our work on social norm measurement and enforcement. The first presentation will feature a comprehensive survey experiment on the role of question sequence, reference group and context in the measurement of work-related gender norms. The second presentation will report results from a field experiment on sanctioning of free-riding in public transport.

I am honored to be part of the faculty at the summer school on “The Human Mind and the Open Society”. The two-week course takes place at the Central European University in Budapest and focuses on the adaptability of the human mind to the quirks of contemporary human social environments (or the other way round).

Yes, there is! I am very pleased that this paper, coauthored with Ana Macanovic, has now found its home. Using state-of-the-art text mining methods, we show how online markets for illegal goods are morally embedded in the motivational landscape of voluntary information exchange through reputation systems.
